Colombian Baritone Jacobo Ochoa, graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a First Class Honours degree. He was a member of the Tenerife Opera Studio (2019/20) during which time he performed the role of Belcore at Opera de Tenerife, National State Theatre of Tbilisi, and Teatro Comunale di Bologna. He made his debut at the Festival Verdi in Parma in 2020, where he performed in the concert version of Macbeth conducted by Roberto Abbado, a CD of this event is being released in December 2021.
He has sung the role of Masetto with UK company Clonter Opera and appeared with British Youth Opera (Caliban - The Enchanted Island). Jacobo is the winner of the Colombian National Singing competition, where he was also awarded a scholarship to study in Barcelona for one year. He then went on to win 2nd prize at the Logroño international singing competition in Spain. During his time at the Guildhall he was awarded 2nd prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary for young singers. He has been supported by the Drake Calleja Trust and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has had the opportunity to work with tenor Michael Fabiano, vocal coach Kevin Murphy, soprano Mariella Devia in masterclasses in the UK and in Tenerife respectively. He has also worked closely with Maestro Giulio Zappa. Future engagements include, his debut as Lindorf in a production of Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach) for Opera de Tenerife, Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro) for West Green Opera and his return to the Festival Verdi in Parma for a new production of La Forza del Destino in the role of ‘Un Alcade’ ,covering ‘Fra Melitone’ and the role of ‘Marullo’ in Rigoletto at the Teatro Verdi di Busetto |
El Barítono Colombiano Jacobo Ochoa finalizó sus estudios con honores en la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres en 2020. Además, hizo parte del Opera Studio de Tenerife (2019/20) en el que interpretó el rol de Belcore (Elisir d’amore) en la Opera de Tenerife, el Teatro Comunale di Bologna y el Teatro Nacional de la Opera de Georgia. Debutó en el Festival Verdi de Parma en el otoño de 2020 donde participó en la versión concierto de Macbeth dirigido por el Maestro Roberto Abbado.
Ha interpretado los roles de Masetto (Don Giovanni) y Caliban (Enchanted Island) en Clonter Opera y British Youth Opera respectivamente, ambas en el Reino Unido. Recientemente ha hecho parte de una serie de conciertos con La Orion Orchestra alrededor de Inglaterra. Ha ganado el segundo premio en el Concurso Internacional de Longroño y en el Kathleen Ferrier Bursary para jóvenes cantantes. Y el primer premio en el Concurso Nacional de Canto de Colombia donde fue galardonado con una beca para estudiar en Barcelona. Durante sus estudios, Jacobo recibió gratamente becas de Drake Calleja Trust y Guildhall School trust. Futuros compromisos incluyen su debut como Lindorf (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) en la Opera de Tenerife en 2022, Figaro con West Green Opera y vuelve al Festival Verdi en Parma para la nueva producción de La Forza del Destino donde interpretará el rol de ‘Un Alcalde’, cubrirá ‘Fra Melitone’ y el rol de ‘Marullo’ en Rigoletto que se llevará a cabo en el Teatro Verdi di Busetto |
